Having previously worked with James when he was overseeing refit projects for another restaurant company, he was keen to get us on board when he and his business partner Jamie teamed up to start their new business venture ‘Brucan Pubs’
The Greene Oak in Windsor provided the perfect location for their first site, and James wanted us to transform the bland pub into a traditional, old English, homely feel Gastro Pub.
The drab back dining area was showing its age and didn’t give the inviting feeling that Brucan wanted to provide for the customers. The room was entirely overhauled, with the manufacture and fitting of a traditional oak-panelled room. Feature aged mirrors were fitted within the back wall, and services were installed to accommodate a concealed monitor and speaker system providing the opportunity to also hire the space out for meetings and conferences.
We brought this theme through into the main bar area, with low-level panelling fitted throughout, followed up by rustic brick slips installed to give the impression of original internal brickwork. All panel work was polished on-site to an aged finish, and the previously bright glossy finished bar and back fitting were refinished in keeping with the new theme of the venue.
The toilet areas were fully refitted with new tiling, wall cladding and unique vanity units manufactured to the taste of the owners which have proved a popular talking point for guests.
Full decoration throughout and fitting of quirky Bric-à-brac gave the interior the final touches needed to transform the previously failing pub into Windsors place to be for fine dining or just an alternative bar experience.
One of the main things that attracted Brucan to the site originally was the large sun trap beer garden, though, like the interior, this wasn’t originally very inviting either. We sourced two horse boxes, which we situated either end of the beer garden and fitted out with bench seating and tables, giving the opportunity to offer an unconventional alfresco dining experience.
