Situated beside Chancery Lane, ETM group wanted to give their ‘White Swan’ site a lift, to portray a feeling of warmth, comfort and indulgence to diners and pub-goers alike.
We began with the refurbishment of the bland wall panelling throughout the main bar area, refinishing it to an aged, rustic effect expected from original panelling, and reigniting the inviting homely feel of the venue.
With this feel in mind, we totally overhauled the two stairways leading up to both the mezzanine flooring level and the third-floor dining room. Previously covered by a worn, bland industrial carpet, we manufactured a solid oak stair cladding system, which was all custom-fitted and polished on-site, carrying the theme of the traditional oak used in the panelling throughout the venue.
The walls of the stairways were also given a vintage feel, with a combination of brick slips fitted in a fashion to give the impression that they were original interior brickwork that had simply been uncovered and railway sleepers. The mezzanine floor above the bar area was retiled in victorian style mosaics to complement the staircase.
The main dining area was lacking in character from the rest of the pub, and the group were looking to diffuse the drab atmosphere. We continued the idea of the exposed brick look from the stairway around all the walls and pillars in the room above the existing low-level panelling and fitted original champagne ageing racks to the walls around the booth seating areas, complete with LED backlighting. Finished off with new banquette seating, and re-polishing of the floor, and redecoration inside and out, the White Swan is more popular than ever, with wedding parties, functions, foodies, and people just wanting to enjoy a pint and soak up the friendly atmosphere.
